According to data from the Central Registry of North Macedonia and Govt Officials, the buildings inside the Kuprom premise have been in an unresolved legal process of re-ownership for the past twenty years; While the remaining land in the parcel is still property of the State of North Macedonia. The General Urban Plan has recently forseen qualification for A-Housing which is a confirmation that in the future this building is planned to be built residential buildings. At the same time it opens the dilemma of how safe it is to build dwellings on a land where ferrous metal production facilities have operated for decades until bankruptcy and privatization. The Municipality has not carried on any examinations on toxicity levels on the property soil and neighbouring parcels.
Kuprom has currently a mixed ownership of a former State owned property. Current creditors and buyers are not disclosed.
We do not know how exactly were the facilities sold and at what price.
What is clear is that the Municipality of Gjorce Petrov in which Kuprom is located, has needs not met for quality public spaces for the community.
We have been in contact with several local Architects who have completed their Architecture Thesis on the revitalization of Kuprom.

KUPROM - Event with Educational, Cultural, Artistic and Environmental Activities (Filip Koneski - MAPX Macedonia Architecture)
CULTURAL EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE KUPROM FACTORY ON SUNDAY OCTOBER 21 (srekja.mk)
Obstructed Event
The attempt to hold the event was interrupted by the presence of one subject pending ownership, a non practicing judge and several police officers, claiming that it was a private property subject to bankruptcy and creditors' litigation. The area the event was attempting to take place was a public property according to the State’s Central Registry. Local Authorities had been notified prior to the event.
‘The municipality of Gjorce Petrov recently received an initiative from the NGO sector to organize an event at the factory. From our side, it was approved because our tendency is always to meet the NGOs as an open and transparent municipality. What happened next, we have no information, nor did anyone inform us, and it is not in our jurisdiction either - said the municipality of Gjorce Petrov.’
